Updates: Hadouken Elvis!!!

After my last post in November, I've prepared myself for turning 30 by revisiting Xmen: The Animated Series and X-Files with my cat Elvis over the holiday season. It was awesome having conversations with Elvis about Magneto being rad or just how much of a hottie Agent Scully is. These discussions eventually led into deep conversations about love, life and what we both should do with them.

Elvis has decided to overcome his fear of the camera and wants me to help him shoot his own reality show about his sleepy adventures.

As for myself, I plan to slowly and steadily wake up from my TV indulgence / creative hibernation, starting with making new illustrative as well as sculptural art for a group exhibition in March. I think it will be about slugs... so so so many slugs

In regards to love, we will both continue to push through season 2 and eventually complete all nine seasons of X Files to spend more time with Special Agent Dana Scully.

Updates.

Dear life, please stop slacking and/or playing with plastic ninja weapons and start doing some creative stuff and work! The holidays are ending and I've been totally wasting time with that stupid iPhone scrabble app.

Updates.

The end of the year approaches and my work pile builds up as I continue working on freelance gigs with bands the Cheating Sons and Die Vader Die. I'm also trying to find some time to start on Still Warm issue 2, continue working on musical collaborative projects with Pomme De La Pomme, Staring Incident and David Carla as well as composing new tunes for my own personal musical exploration: Eff Loves You (there are new tracks on the myspace page).

On another note, I like this girl and I have a silly new hair cut.

Still Warm Updates.

Still Warm is currently available at Polyester Books and Sticky Institute (Melbourne), Quimbys (Chicago), Pilot Books and Elliot Bay Book Company (Seattle) and Pens (San Francisco). Also, Still Warm has been reviewed by Syndicate Zine Reviews, read the article here. Or maybe just read all our updates here.

So because we're totally international and junk now, you should order a copy from us before all our zines are consumed! Contact Hannah or myself at thisisstillwarm@gmail.com

Animal Bookscapes website is up.

I've made little pieces of music to accompany each book I've made for the exhibition, like little soundtracks for the mini one page stories.

You can see the other books and hear the soundscapes at www.animalbookscapes.posterous.com

Exhibition Updates 2.

Here's one of six of my finished pieces for the group show Don't Quit Your Day Job. We'll be celebrating the opening night this Friday 1st October from 6-8pm, so come join us!

Exhibition Updates.

With only two more weeks to go, I'm running pretty late with my animal books... three big books need to be glued shut, four little books need to be cut and illustrated, but my plastic animals buddies are having fun playing with each other while they wait for their new homes which makes everybody happy.

Exhibition catalogue is about 80% finished as well, and I think it's looking pretty hot so do pop in for the exhibition and pick up a free copy (then maybe buy a copy of Still Warm!).

Busy little bee.

Things slowed down just for a moment as I decided to take a break after the insanity of the zine fair book preparations, and now it's back to being a busy little bee.

Most of the articles have been completed for Still Warm, a zine that Hannah and I have started earlier this year... which means it's time for me to start getting the design and layouts churned out soon. There's still a couple more photoshoots we'd like to get done, and we're definitely going to approach Lauren again for all our photography because she was absolutely brilliant for the dodgeball shoot (and also a little special thanks here to Ned for letting us throw dodgeballs at her head). We've also received a couple of contributions in the form of a sweet little essay about first loves, and a bizarre comic strip about sex and ponies.

Then there's further development with the big branding project for Inversion Studios, a recording studio in Singapore. And I'm also getting back into the groove of things with David Carla and Fish School, two musical projects experimenting with vocal distortion and electronica through Ableton. With DC, it's more experimenting with industrial and shoegaze genres, and then Fish School sounds like... mm, just imagine that you accidentally fell into the ocean and all the fish are really friendly and shit, that's what we sound like.

And yes, that is a photo of me with very nice breasts.

Zine Success.

So the zine fair was a success, I managed to sell a lot more than I had expected which was really cool. Thanks to everyone who bought some of our books, you're all very cool, especially the awkward little elf who bought my sock book and then gave me her CD (your music is magical). And also special thanks to Ayano once again for inviting me to sell zines with her (her books are precious and you should order a copy through her if you didn't get one last Saturday) and also to Hannah, because she's very cool and constantly inspires me (that's her sitting next to me above).

Update: Busy times.

Sorry for the lack of posts here, but things have been rather hectic in my brain. I've been working on a new branding project for a music studio, collaborating with Lutfi on a musical project called Fish School and with Chen on new David Carla material, starting a magazine with Hannah called Still Warm as well as writing some new story books for a zine fair next month... and not to mention work has been rather busy in the office as well.

Earlier today I was looking through some of Lauren's photography and came across this old photo she took of me which pretty much captures how I feel right now: bleh.

Update: Break time.

Packing up for a three week holiday in Singapore, but I will totally miss my Little Palmerston street Saturday sunshine and beer parties.

Update.

Busy, busy, busy... been in Sydney recently catching up with my beautiful family and friends, then loaded with work back in the office... started a new Twitter, then obsessing over this one... also been preparing for group exhibition, thinking randomly about this girl and drinking lots of Nigori sake.

2009: Quiet Beginnings.

Proposed DL design for a modelling agency.

Besides the above promotional DL card and a few other projects in the office, life has been rather quiet and completely routine. I need to find a source of productivity after work hours soon, as each lonely passing day seems to feel rather meaningless.

Bound: Opening Tonight.

Hope to see anyone out there in internet world at 7pm.

Bound Exhibition: 6-12 December, 2008.

I will be participating in the above group exhibition by contributing some illustrative work, churning out these invites and working with Lauren on a book that will contain pretty pictures and stories which will be sold at the Palookaville throughout the week.

Opening night is on Saturday, 6th December, so do check it out then because there will be insane live performances and video screenings. I'm actually especially keen to see Michael Meneghetti do his thing with his stilts (he's in the second invite above).

Duck Self Portrait / Lenko Exhibition.

Lenko exhibition last night was lots of fun, interesting to see my illustration at that size and up on a wall for people to see... and someone bought it too. It's all very exciting and I would love to do more things like that in the future.

Thank you to all those who were involved with acting, octopus wrangling or the making of lovely music. An Octoprom Facebook group has just been set up and will be updated regularly with the latest news and pictures.

Tentacle Update 2.

After shooting our final bits at the Standard last night, the process of slicing and dicing and editing begins after work tonight. Above are a couple of pictures I took of Lauren during the death scene. She and I will be pretty much editing all of our untitled movie.

Tentacle Update.

Our still currently untitled octopus movie is still slithering forward! Today we shot the lovely and oh-so-brave Breanna get impregnated by the monster octopus, which Lauren and I hand picked and bought for $30 this morning. Two scenes completed, and two more to go.

End of July Update.

WORK life has been rather busy, so much that sometimes on the tram I imagine the outlines of little baby zombies stumbling around and chewing on the shoes of the living. I'm still working on a Feck catalogue which is taking much longer than expected, and I've also recently done a couple of mini projects such as an ad for IShotMyself (which will be in the next photo issue of Vice Magazine) and some promotional posters/postcards for Isabel Hertaeg's show "La Petite Mort - The Orgasm", which is part of the Melbourne Fringe Festival.

BLAH blah blah, now for interesting updates! A few fellow tentacle embracing friends (the loverly Breanna, Lauren, Ilana, Adele and Claire) and I are collaborating on a short film for Trasharama. Still currently untitled, I assure you that it will be ridiculously good because it will contain blood, gore, baby octopuses, nudity and horny teenagers at the prom. Shooting commenced last Friday at the Is Not Magazine party where we filmed the prom scenes, and hopefully everything will be chopped up and edited by September.
